Body Acne

Body Acne
Body Acne can be embarassing. Learn how to keep it from affecting you.

When most people think of acne, they probably think of the teenager with acne on their face. While this is still the most common type of acne, acne breakouts can occur anywhere on the body. Though not as common as acne on the face, body acne is still fairly common in people of all ages. Actually, a lot of people with facial acne usually have some acne elsewhere on their body.

Body acne can appear on the back, shoulders, chest, and even the buttocks. It can appear anywhere on the body except for the soles of the feet and palms of the hands, because those two body parts do not create the oil needed to cause breakouts.

Just like facial acne, those with body acne can feel embarrassed in situation where they can’t cover their breakouts with clothing. They may choose not to go to the pool, be in locker rooms, or wear short sleeves and tank tops.

Because the skin on the rest of the body is thicker and pores larger than on the face, the breakouts of body acne can be larger. Folliculitis is similar in appearance to acne, and is sometimes misdiagnosed. One of the most annoying places for folliculitis to occur is on the butt. We have made a page especially for those who are getting folliculitis breakouts on the buttocks.

Body acne is similar in appearance to the acne you have seen on the face. The bumps can be red and itchy, and don't fade away very quickly. They usually stay in the same location, but occasionally another bump will break out in a new location. Many types of acne and folliculitis can look the same and reappear in the same areas over and over again. This is what makes it hard to distinguish between the two. Acne seems to be more prominent in teens where folliculitis seems to show up more in adults. Whatever the case make sure that you know what you are dealing with so you know how to treat it.

The causes of body acne are not fully known. However, it is thought that sweat, hormones, diet, and tight clothing all can contribute to body acne forming. Also, hereditary factors are thought to play a part in who gets body acne. Getting rid of body acne is somewhat different than acne that is on the face.
