Acne Do's and Don'ts

Know the Acne Do's and Don'ts.
For those that have acne, it is sometimes hard to know what we should be doing and what we shouldn't to help get rid of our acne. We have put together a comprehensive list of acne Do's and Don'ts for you to follow:
Acne Do's:
- Do get at least 7 to 8 hours sleep each night.
- Do drink a lot of water, at least 7 glasses a day.
- Do eat healthy – lots of fruits and veggies especially.
- Do try one of our many acne home remedies.
- Do exercise regularly.
- Do be aware of the side effects the medications you are taking may have.
- Do gently wash your face 2-3 times a day with a mild cleanser.
- Do use only water-based moisturizers to keep the skin soft, smooth and hydrated.
- Do cure your acne with a system such as Acne no More.
- Do keep hair off your face.
- Do change your pillowcases and towels frequently.
- Do use sunscreen. Use a full spectrum UVA/UVB. This prevents hyperpigmentation and preserves skin elasticity.
- Do keep your fingers and hands away from your face – they are carrying bacteria.
- Do replace make-up sponges regularly and be sure to sterilize your make-up brushes. This will prevent bacteria from growing.
- Do eat plenty of fiber rich foods.
- Do limit your use of dairy products as studies have shown they can aggravate acne.
- Do use a single blade razor when shaving acne infected areas, or better yet and electric shaver. Check out our acne shaving tips.
- Do choose cosmetics that are made for your skin type.
- Do wash immediately after exercising and working out. You don't want that sweat to sit and dry on your skin!
- Do consider using products with fruit acids.
- Do be sure to protect your skin from wind and other harsh environments.
- Do take a daily multi-vitamin.
- Do take products that contain the Omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids such as fish oil.
- Do take precautions if you are outside in hot, humid climates. Do what you can to protect your skin from that environment.
- Do follow all directions exactly when taking medications.
- Do shampoo your hair often.
- Do stay patient! You are not going to get rid of acne overnight.
Acne Don'ts:
- Don't just ignore your acne and pretend it is not there. Learn how to prevent it!
- Don't squeeze or pick at your pimples or zits.
- Don't apply skin treatment products too often.
- Don't smoke. There are many reasons to stop smoking, and here is another one to add to the list.
- Don't drink alcohol.
- Don’t eat foods with processed fat.
- Don’t fight acne alone. Try a system such as Acne no More.
- Don't use toothpaste as an acne treatment.
- Don't go for a facial more often than every 6 weeks.
- Don't scrub hard when washing.
- Don't wash your face more than 3 times a day.
- Don’t use too many face products at once.
- Don't stress yourself – find time to relax.
- Don't have too many iodides in your diet, such as salty foods.
- Don't have too many oily foods like burgers and chips in your diet.
- Don't eat or drink foods high in sugar like soda and chocolates.
- Don't sunbathe or use tanning beds.
- Don't use really hot or cold water on your skin.
- Don't take drugs that were not prescribed for you by your doctor – especially steroids.
- Don't take birth control pills without knowing the facts. Some types of birth control pills can worsen acne.
- Don't use too much make-up.
- Don't spend a lot of time in extremely hot environments.
- Don't use oil-based creams, ointments and cosmetics.
- Don't use any products containing Vaseline.
- Don’t use drying products.
- Don't scratch or rub an acne infected area – no matter how much it itches.
